
Muzaffarpur (Bihar): A devastating fire caused by an alleged short circuit has shaken Muzaffarpur’s Motipur area. The late-night blaze engulfed a three-storey house in Ward No. 13, killing five members of the same family, including a mother and her two daughters. Seven others sustained severe burn injuries in the incident.
Five Die On the Spot Amid Chaos and Screams
The horrific incident occurred at the residence of Lalan Sah, son of Gena Sah. The entire family was asleep when the fire broke out. Within moments, the flames spread rapidly through the house, leaving the residents with no time to escape.
Amid loud cries for help, five members were trapped and burnt alive before neighbours could intervene.
Fire Tenders Arrived, But Damage Was Already Done
DSP (West) Suchitra Kumari reached the site and confirmed that five people had died and several others were critically injured.
Four of the severely injured victims have been referred to SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, while others are being treated locally.
Local residents reported that around 2 a.m., smoke and flames were seen rising from the house. By the time nearby residents attempted rescue, the fire had already spread across all floors. Fire brigade teams later arrived, but significant damage had already occurred.
Victims Include Mother, Wife, and Two Young Daughters
Those who lost their lives in the tragedy are:
- Lalan Kumar
- Sushila Devi (Mother)
- Pooja Kumari (Wife)
- Srishti Kumari (Daughter)
- Golu Kumari (Daughter)
The seven injured include:
Lalbabu Prasad, Mala Devi, Sakshi Kumari, Arjun Kumar, Rishabh Kumar, Aman Kumar, and Lalbabu Prasad’s wife. All are currently undergoing treatment.
Cause Under Investigation, Short Circuit Suspected
Motipur police and a forensic team are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause. Preliminary findings point to a short circuit, which likely triggered the deadly fire.
