Lucknow, Feb 7, 2026: BSP National President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that under its governance, society at large is suffering, except for a small handful of beneficiaries. She highlighted that the Brahmin community, in particular, has been vocal about feeling neglected and disrespected.
Addressing a special meeting of party functionaries at state, zonal, district, and assembly levels regarding preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections, Mayawati expressed deep concern over the impact of BJP policies. Speaking to reporters afterward, she said, “Currently, it appears that BJP’s policies and actions primarily serve the interests of a few, leaving the rest of society increasingly distressed. The Brahmin community, in particular, is vocal about their neglect, insecurity, and lack of respect—a matter being discussed nationwide.”
Mayawati added that the BJP appears uneasy and concerned about this rising discontent. “One must note that the respect, positions, and security accorded to upper castes, especially Brahmins, by the BSP at both party and government levels, have rarely been matched by any other party or government,” she said.
According to a party statement, Mayawati emphasized that BSP’s guiding principle has always been ‘Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay’ (Welfare and Happiness of All People). She stated that during BSP governance in Uttar Pradesh, the rule of law was strictly enforced to genuinely benefit all sections of society. “The BSP has consistently safeguarded the interests of all communities, unlike rival parties whose policies and actions have often been narrow-minded, casteist, communal, pro-elite, and anti-poor,” she said.
Without naming them, Mayawati targeted her opponents regarding reservation policies, saying, “The opposition’s attitude towards Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservations has created severe challenges for these groups in obtaining government jobs and promotions. Their lack of goodwill recently turned UGC rules into a source of social tension rather than harmony.”
On the issue of Special Intensive Review (SIR) in the state, Mayawati said the state government continues to express concern. She urged officials to assist citizens in registering for voter lists, especially the poor, laborers, daily wage earners, women, and the uneducated, to ensure they are not left out.
She also criticized the current Parliament session, saying, “Vital issues affecting the country and public interest are not being properly debated due to political clashes, suspensions, and boycotts, which both the ruling party and opposition must reflect upon seriously.”
Highlighting electoral preparations, Mayawati announced organizational reshuffles aimed at translating Mission 2027 into reality, similar to BSP’s success in 2007, with the goal of forming a full-majority BSP government in Uttar Pradesh based on the principle of welfare and happiness for all.
