Major Shake-up in Uttarakhand Congress: Ganesh Godiyal Reappointed as State President; 27 District Chiefs Announced

Dehradun: In a significant organizational reshuffle, the Indian National Congress has once again appointed Ganesh Godiyal as the President of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). The decision, announced on Tuesday through an official press release by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, has injected fresh energy into the party’s state unit ahead of the 2027 Assembly Elections.

Alongside Godiyal’s appointment, the party also announced 27 new district presidents and constituted two crucial committees to gear up for the upcoming polls. Former state president Pritam Singh will head the Campaign Committee, while senior leader and former cabinet minister Dr. Harak Singh Rawat has been tasked with leading the Election Management Committee.

Outgoing state president Karan Mahra has been appointed as a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), acknowledging his contribution to the organization.

Restructuring for a Stronger Grassroots Presence

K.C. Venugopal stated that the reshuffle was part of the party’s “organization-building drive”, aimed at strengthening the Congress network from booth to block level. “We held extensive discussions with grassroots workers across districts before finalizing these appointments. Our focus is to make the Congress stronger and more connected to the people of Uttarakhand,” he said.

The move signals that the party has entered full election mode, with a leadership team comprising experienced and regionally balanced faces — a combination of seniority, strategy, and ground-level engagement.

Political Significance of the Reshuffle

Political analysts believe that the reshuffle reflects a clear message from the Congress high command — to unify factions, revitalize the cadre, and position the party as a strong challenger in the 2027 elections.
With Ganesh Godiyal, Pritam Singh, and Harak Singh Rawat leading key fronts, the Congress aims to regain lost ground in the hill state, where internal divisions have long hindered its performance.

Challenges Ahead for Ganesh Godiyal

As the newly reappointed state president, Ganesh Godiyal faces the daunting task of tackling factionalism within the party, ensuring grassroots unity, and spearheading an aggressive outreach campaign ahead of the elections.

Known for his calm demeanor, organizational acumen, and inclusive leadership, Godiyal previously served as state Congress chief and is regarded as a consensus-builder among party ranks.
The Congress leadership hopes that his return will help bridge internal divides and strengthen the organization across both hill and plain regions of Uttarakhand.

Bottom Line

With this sweeping restructuring, the Congress has sent a strong signal — it’s gearing up for 2027 with renewed vigor, strategic leadership, and a clear focus on grassroots mobilization.
