Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has tragically passed away in a plane crash. His last public appearance was alongside Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at a Cabinet Infrastructure Committee meeting, where several major development projects received approval.
Final Meeting Before Tragedy
Pawar was traveling to Baramati to attend an official event when the plane crash occurred, claiming the lives of all on board. A day before this ill-fated trip, he had attended a Mumbai-based government meeting focusing on ongoing and upcoming infrastructure initiatives. A photograph from this session, later shared on social media by the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office and reposted by Ajit Pawar himself, now stands as a poignant reminder of his last official engagement.
Approvals for Key Development Projects
On 27 January, the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee meeting was chaired by CM Devendra Fadnavis, with Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule in attendance. During the session:
- Approval was granted to connect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with Navi Mumbai International Airport via Metro Line 8.
- The Nashik City Ring Road project, spanning 66.15 km and costing ₹3,954 crore, was cleared to enhance infrastructure around the Kumbh Mela site.
- In Gadchiroli district, a revised 85.76 km, four-lane cement concrete highway for mineral transportation from Navegaon More to Konsari Mulchera Hedri-Surjagarh was approved.
Nation in Shock
The news of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s sudden demise has left Maharashtra in deep shock. The plane reportedly caught fire upon landing, and all passengers perished. The bodies were taken to Baramati Hospital. Authorities have yet to disclose the exact cause of the crash.
