Lucknow: Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s influence within the BJP continues to grow steadily. Following his effective role as co-in-charge in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, Maurya has been appointed as the central observer to oversee the selection of the BJP legislative party leader in Bihar. This appointment underscores the party’s increasing trust in his leadership abilities.

Role in Bihar Elections

In the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, the BJP secured 89 seats, emerging as the single largest party. The central leadership has now entrusted Maurya with the responsibility of supervising the election of the legislative party leader. The BJP’s central office issued a notice confirming that Maurya will work alongside Law & Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and former Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti as co-observers for this crucial task.

Maurya’s Past Leadership Roles

Maurya has been assigned key responsibilities in multiple states over the years. He led the BJP’s successful campaign in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 as the state party president, marking the party’s return to power after 14 years with a three-fourths majority. He also served as co-in-charge during the Maharashtra Assembly elections in 2019, where the BJP emerged as the largest party. Additionally, he has contributed to election management strategies in West Bengal.

Why Maurya’s Stature is Rising

Keshav Prasad Maurya is considered a prominent OBC leader, a factor that is politically strategic for the BJP. In UP, his leadership helped consolidate the OBC vote bank, which had been crucial in achieving victory after a 14-year gap. The BJP is now leveraging Maurya’s appeal at a national level, particularly to counter the opposition’s PDA strategy, which focuses on mobilizing marginalized communities.
