
Jaisalmer: The Kelawa cattle killing case near Pokhran has come under the spotlight after the arrest of Basit Khan, the district vice-president of the BJP Minority Morcha. Police have accused him of involvement in a criminal conspiracy. So far, six individuals have been arrested, while the main accused remains absconding.
Case Background
The incident occurred on the night of 7 January near Kelawa village in Pokhran. Basit Khan has been arrested for allegedly participating in the conspiracy. Known for his close ties with senior BJP leaders, Khan has longstanding connections with influential political figures, including former Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, former MP Manvendra Singh Jasol, Pokhran MLA Mahant Pratap Puri, former Jaisalmer MLA Sang Singh Bhati, and former Pokhran MLA Shaitan Singh Rathore. He has also been linked to former district head Anjana Meghwal of Jaisalmer.
Police Action and Investigation
The police have so far apprehended six suspects, including Basit Khan. The main accused, Yakub alias Ala, is still at large. Investigation officer Bagduram confirmed that Basit Khan, son of Abdul Gaffar and resident of Ward No. 1, Pokhran, has been arrested for his role in the criminal conspiracy.
Political Connections Under Scrutiny
Basit Khan is considered a close associate of Pokhran MLA Mahant Pratap Puri and other senior BJP leaders. He has frequently been present at weddings, social events, and public programs organized by the MLA. Reports also indicate that he has visited the Taratarra Math multiple times, further highlighting his proximity to influential political figures.
The BJP is expected to take strict action against Basit Khan following his arrest, as the case continues to draw attention across Rajasthan.
