Jitan Ram Manjhi Backs Demand to Award ‘Bharat Ratna’ to Nitish Kumar, Says PM Modi Will Surprise Again

Patna, Bihar: The demand to honor Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with the country’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, is gaining momentum. Following a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by senior JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi, NDA ally and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi has also voiced his support for the proposal.

PM Modi Will Surprise Again, Says Manjhi

Taking to social media platform X on Saturday, Union Minister and HAM chief Jitan Ram Manjhi wrote:
“Bharat Ratna Nitish Kumar – how wonderful it would sound! We have full faith that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, known for making surprising decisions, will once again astonish everyone by honoring Bihar CM Nitish Kumar with the Bharat Ratna. Bharat Ratna Nitish Kumar.”

K.C. Tyagi’s Letter to the Prime Minister

On Friday, JD(U) senior leader K.C. Tyagi formally requested Prime Minister Modi to confer the Bharat Ratna on Nitish Kumar. In his letter, Tyagi described the Bihar Chief Minister as a “priceless jewel of the socialist movement” and emphasized that he is fully deserving of the nation’s highest civilian honor.

Tyagi also highlighted Nitish Kumar’s contributions in continuing the legacy of leaders like Chaudhary Charan Singh and Karpoori Thakur, particularly in organizing and empowering farmers and marginalized communities. The letter urged the Prime Minister to honor Nitish Kumar while he is alive, noting that the award has previously been conferred on living heroes, and that such recognition would ensure his legacy is remembered for generations.

Repeated Calls for Bharat Ratna

This is not the first time the demand to award Nitish Kumar the Bharat Ratna has surfaced. Over the years, several political leaders and parties have proposed his name for the country’s highest civilian honor in recognition of his contributions to public service and governance.
