“Jinnah’s Legacy and Vande Mataram…” Anurag Thakur Launches Sharp Attack on Congress, Targets Rahul & Priyanka Gandhi

New Delhi: During the historic Lok Sabha debate marking the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, BJP MP Anurag Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, targeting its leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

Why Were Rahul & Priyanka Gandhi Absent?

Thakur questioned why the Gandhi siblings were absent from the House on such a significant occasion for the nation. He accused the Congress of repeatedly distancing itself from symbols that foster national unity.

Vande Mataram “Allergy” for Some

Revisiting historical controversies, Thakur referred to Jawaharlal Nehru’s selective acceptance of only two stanzas of Vande Mataram and Jinnah’s opposition to it. He argued that contemporary Congress has not moved beyond that mindset. “For patriots, Vande Mataram is a source of energy, but for some, it triggers an allergy,” he remarked.

Thakur further alleged that the Gandhi family relies on the Indian Union Muslim League for political support. Targeting Priyanka Gandhi before her speech, he said, “Rumors in the corridors suggest that for the past five days, Priyanka ji has been preparing to recite the entire Vande Mataram without reading it. She has committed so many grave errors that it’s time for her atonement.”

BJP MP’s Strong Assertion

Thakur claimed that the portions of Vande Mataram cut during Nehru’s time included hymns to Goddess Durga, celebrating feminine power and strength. He said, “Vande Mataram energizes us, while some (Congress) develop an allergy to it.”

He questioned why Congress opposes the national song so vehemently and added that some representatives of the Samajwadi Party have also shown disrespect to the anthem. Thakur’s remarks triggered a heated uproar in the House, reflecting deep political tensions over the issue.
