The election schedule for 48 municipal bodies in Jharkhand has been declared. Voting for all municipal bodies will take place on February 23, with the counting of votes and announcement of results scheduled for February 27. For the first time, reservations have been provided for the backward classes in municipal bodies. According to the Election Commission’s notification, the mayoral post in Ranchi has been reserved for Scheduled Tribes, while the positions in Dhanbad, Deoghar, and Bokaro municipal corporations remain unreserved. Additionally, the mayoral seats in Palamu and Mango municipal corporations have been reserved for women.

Model Code of Conduct Imposed: Activities Suspended Until February 23

With the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, several activities in the state have been suspended until February 23. The Election Commission has issued clear guidelines in this regard. No new government schemes will be announced during this period, although ongoing schemes will continue to operate.

Transfers and postings have also been put on hold. In exceptional circumstances, transfers may occur, but officials directly involved in the elections will not be posted in their home districts.

All political slogans, posters, banners, and hoardings displayed on walls will be removed. Political parties will not be allowed to use government resources such as vehicles, official residences, or aircraft for campaigning. Until February 23, any rallies, processions, or meetings by political parties will require prior permission from the District Election Officer.

Religious places cannot be used for election campaigning. Candidates are also prohibited from offering or accepting monetary help, which will be considered bribery. However, certain exceptional situations may be exempt from this rule.

Finally, no candidate or party may make personal or derogatory attacks against others during this period.
