Patna, Bihar:
Senior Janata Dal (United) leader and Baroli MLA Manjeet Kumar Singh has been accorded the rank of Minister of State and appointed as a party whip, marking his return to the centre of power in Bihar politics. Singh is among the eight legislators entrusted with the responsibility of party whip, reflecting the leadership’s renewed confidence in his organisational and legislative abilities.
Known for his outspoken nature, deep research, and strict adherence to rules, Manjeet Singh represents the Baroli Assembly constituency in Gopalganj district. Over the years, he has earned a reputation as one of the most well-prepared legislators in the Bihar Assembly.
A Legislator Known for Research and Rule-Based Politics
Manjeet Singh is widely regarded as a law-abiding MLA who leaves no stone unturned before raising issues in the Assembly. Colleagues say his interventions often put even the government on the defensive, as he backs his arguments with thorough research and legal understanding. He is known to consult legal experts before taking up matters in the House, ensuring that his questions are grounded in constitutional and procedural norms.
Once Felt Marginalised Within the Party
There was a phase when Manjeet Singh reportedly felt sidelined within the party and was visibly unhappy. At one point, he was said to be on the verge of rebellion. It was Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself who intervened, deputing senior leaders such as Lesi Singh, Rana Randhir, and Jay Kumar Singh to persuade him. Their efforts succeeded, and Singh remained with the party.
2015 Bungalow Controversy That Made Headlines
Manjeet Singh had earlier grabbed political attention in 2015 following a controversy over his government bungalow after he lost the Assembly election. During the change of government after the Mahagathbandhan’s victory, a senior RJD MLA allegedly occupied Singh’s official residence before the stipulated deadline for vacating the house had expired.
While the RJD legislator claimed he had entered the bungalow with consent, Manjeet Singh strongly objected, citing government rules and procedures. The episode sparked a political row and became a much-discussed issue in Bihar’s political circles at the time.
Back in Power
Political observers note that circumstances have come full circle for Manjeet Singh. From facing alleged neglect and a public controversy to now being given ministerial status and an important party role, his political resurgence underlines his standing within the JDU.
Manjeet Singh continues to be described as a disciplined and rule-bound leader—one who neither violates regulations nor tolerates their violation—earning him the tag of a “law-abiding MLA” in Bihar politics.
