Jaipur: A shocking incident has emerged from Jaipur’s Nahri ka Bas area, where a government school teacher, Mukesh Jangid, died by suicide allegedly due to excessive workload linked to the ongoing SIR (Special Intensive Revision) voter-list process. A suicide note was recovered from his pocket, prompting widespread outrage among teacher unions.
According to officials, teachers in Rajasthan have been assigned duties as BLOs (Booth Level Officers) for the SIR process, significantly increasing their workload. Mukesh, posted at the Government Primary School, Nahri ka Bas, was reportedly under immense pressure to complete BLO tasks on time.
Teacher Jumped in Front of Train
Police said Mukesh ended his life by jumping in front of a moving train. The incident triggered immediate protests by the Rajasthan Primary and Secondary Teachers’ Association, which accused the administration of overburdening school staff for voter-list revision.
Suicide Note Mentions Supervisor’s Pressure
The suicide note recovered from Mukesh’s pocket reportedly mentions that his supervisor, Sitaram, was continuously pressuring him to finish SIR-related tasks and had even threatened him with suspension.
Union leaders claim district administrations across Rajasthan are competing to show “efficient performance” in SIR, resulting in extreme pressure on ground-level BLO personnel.
The association argued that this administrative burden has reached a dangerous level:
“Teachers are being forced to handle BLO duties while half-yearly examinations are about to begin. Schools are short-staffed, and students’ studies are suffering.”
Police Investigation Underway
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are examining the role of the supervisor and the working conditions linked to the SIR assignment.
Meanwhile, teacher unions have demanded immediate relief from excessive BLO duties and a review of the workload imposed by the SIR process.
