Jaipur BLO Shares Insights on SIR Work: Not as Difficult as Perceived, Highlights Rural-Urban Differences

Jaipur, Rajasthan: Amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise across 12 states, Booth Level Officer (BLO) Savita Swami of Jaipur has shared her experiences, stating that the voter list revision work is not overly difficult if approached with proper planning. She emphasized that working just two hours a day can enable BLOs to complete their target within the two-month timeframe.

Urban Work Easier Due to Compact Booths

Savita, serving in Jaipur’s Sanganer Assembly constituency, explained that any concerns raised about BLO workload in urban areas are largely unfounded. “Each polling booth has roughly 1,500 voters, and a BLO is responsible for only one booth. Distributing and collecting forms is manageable,” she said.

She further highlighted that dividing fieldwork and online tasks, dedicating just two hours daily, is sufficient to complete the SIR process. “With proper planning, the workload doesn’t feel overwhelming,” she added, citing her 15 years of experience in government service and multiple assignments as a BLO.

Challenges in Rural Areas

While urban areas have compact booths, rural areas pose greater challenges. Savita noted that in villages, polling areas are more spread out, residents may not be available on time, and network issues often complicate online form submission.

Babulal Gurjar, a BLO from Shahpura, shared his experience: “I am responsible for 1,083 voters across 96 families, many of whom live far apart or have migrated to other states. Collecting and uploading their documents online has been challenging, especially when documents are missing or network connectivity is poor.”

Extended SIR Timeline

Initially scheduled to conclude by 4 December, the Election Commission extended the SIR deadline to 11 December, with final voter lists to be published on 14 December. BLOs continue to play a crucial role in ensuring accurate voter registration amid logistical and digital challenges.
