Is Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM on the Verge of a Split? Three MLAs Skip Party Feast, Meet BJP Leader Nitin Nabin

A political storm appears to be brewing within the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) as three of its sitting MLAs skipped a crucial party gathering hosted by party chief Upendra Kushwaha and instead held a meeting with senior BJP leader Nitin Nabin in Delhi. The development has triggered intense speculation about a possible split within Kushwaha’s party.

The ‘Litti-Chokha feast’, organized at Kushwaha’s residence in Patna, was seen as an effort to strengthen internal unity and foster dialogue among party leaders. However, the absence of three key MLAs—Madhav Anand, Rameshwar Mahato, and Alok Singh—despite being present in Patna, raised eyebrows. Their decision to boycott the event and travel together to Delhi has been interpreted as a clear political signal rather than a coincidence.

Discontent Over Family Politics and Ministerial Aspirations

Sources within the party suggest that simmering discontent has been building for some time. Rameshwar Mahato, in particular, was reportedly expecting to be recommended for a ministerial position. Instead, Kushwaha promoted his son, Deepak Prakash, to a ministerial role and secured an election ticket for his wife, who went on to become an MLA. This perceived rise of “family-centric politics” has unsettled senior leaders and deepened internal resentment.

Mahato recently expressed his dissatisfaction on social media, writing that when leadership intentions become “blurred” and policies shift from public interest toward personal gain, the public cannot be misled for long. The post was widely seen as a direct criticism of the party leadership.

Courtesy Call or Open Defiance?

While the BJP has officially described the meeting between Nitin Nabin and the three MLAs as a “courtesy call,” political observers are far from convinced. Analysts argue that the coordinated move—boycotting a key party event and meeting a senior BJP leader together—signals strategic intent rather than mere formality.

Sources indicate that the three MLAs are acting in unison and may be preparing to take a major political decision collectively in the coming days.

Silence from Leadership, Questions Over RLM’s Future

Neither Upendra Kushwaha nor the dissenting MLAs have issued any official statement so far. However, political experts warn that if all three legislators were to leave the party together, it could pose a serious existential challenge for the RLM.

Whether the MLAs will align with the BJP, form a new political front, or chart a different course remains unclear. What is certain is that the unfolding developments have placed Upendra Kushwaha’s leadership and the future of the RLM under sharp political scrutiny. The next few days are expected to be crucial for Bihar’s political landscape.
