Indore BLO Neelu Gaur Stays on Duty Despite Mother’s Death; Collector Visits to Console Her

Indore, Madhya Pradesh: In a remarkable display of dedication and responsibility, Booth Level Officer (BLO) Neelu Gaur continued her electoral duties even after the sudden demise of her mother. The incident occurred during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Indore, leaving colleagues and officials deeply moved by her commitment. Upon learning of her situation, Collector Shivam Verma personally visited Neelu at the polling station in Badi Gwaltoli to console her.

Collector Praises Commitment

Collector Verma expressed solidarity with Neelu, assuring her that the entire administration stands by her during this difficult time. He described her unwavering dedication as exemplary for all booth-level officers. During his visit, the Collector also interacted with other BLOs and voters to assess the ongoing SIR work, which is being conducted across eight polling centers in Badi Gwaltoli, with more than half of the work already completed.

Duty Before Personal Loss

Neelu Gaur revealed that her mother passed away on the morning of 22 November during treatment. Despite the tragic news, she called her superiors at 6 AM to inform them and insisted on completing the collection of voter forms from homes where forms had already been distributed. Officials initially tried to dissuade her, but Neelu was determined not to leave her duties unfinished.

From National Athlete to Responsible Officer

Neelu is not only a dedicated officer but also a former national softball player and a recipient of the Vikram Award. She balances her fieldwork with personal responsibilities, spending her nights with her mother while actively working on voter form distribution, collection, and digitalization during the day.

Remarkable Achievements in Voter List Work

So far, Neelu has delivered forms to over 540 households and collected and digitized more than 125 forms, an achievement recognized as outstanding for any BLO. Currently serving as Assistant Grade-III at the Commercial Tax Office in Indore, Neelu is responsible for the Indore-5 constituency, exemplifying the highest standards of public service and dedication.
