I’m a Tiger Who Roams Free, Not a Circus Tiger”: AAP Leader Chaitar Vasava Rejects BJP’s Offer Ahead of PM Modi’s Gujarat Visit

Ahmedabad: Political heat is soaring in Gujarat ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the state. Firebrand Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava has stirred the political landscape by launching a fierce attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of pressuring him to defect. Addressing a massive gathering in Chhota Udepur’s Kavant tehsil, Vasava declared, “The BJP is trying to trap me with false cases and force me into their camp. But I am a tiger who roams freely in the jungle — not a circus tiger who dances to someone else’s tunes.”

The remarks came just days before Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Dediyapada in Narmada district — the very constituency represented by Vasava. The event is being organized to mark the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda and 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’.

Vasava, a popular tribal leader from the region, alleged that the BJP is bringing the Prime Minister to his constituency as part of a political strategy to weaken him. “They are even garlanding the statue I installed. The pressure on me to join the BJP is immense, but I will never bow down. I belong to the forest, not to a cage,” Vasava said defiantly.

He further accused the ruling party of lodging false criminal cases against him to silence his voice. “The BJP is scared of my growing popularity among the tribal youth,” Vasava asserted, adding that in the upcoming local body elections, “the BJP will face a complete wipeout.”

BJP’s ‘Masterstroke’ in the Tribal Belt

Political observers see the BJP’s move to host a major event in Vasava’s constituency as a calculated masterstroke. Dediyapada has been a stronghold of the AAP leader since his emphatic victory in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, where he secured 55.87% of the votes, defeating the BJP candidate by over 40,000 votes. The Congress trailed far behind with just 6.8% of the vote share.

After his victory, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal appointed Vasava as the leader of the AAP legislative party in Gujarat. Despite legal restrictions that currently prevent him from entering his own constituency due to pending cases, Vasava continues to enjoy massive support among the tribal population.

Fearless and Popular Among Tribals

Chaitar Vasava has emerged as a symbol of tribal pride and resistance in Gujarat’s eastern belt. His fiery speeches and grassroots activism have earned him a loyal following, especially among young voters. His arrest last year had triggered widespread anger and protests, strengthening his image as a people’s leader who stands against establishment pressure.

As the Prime Minister prepares to visit Dediyapada, all eyes are now on this political showdown between Gujarat’s ruling BJP and AAP’s “tiger of the jungle.” Whether this confrontation will alter the political equation in the tribal heartland remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: Chaitar Vasava is not ready to be tamed.
