“If BJP Comes to Power in Bengal, We Will Erase All Traces of the Mughals,” Suvendu Adhikari Launches Sharp Attack on TMC

Kolkata: West Bengal BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming that if the BJP comes to power in the state, it will remove every trace of Mughal rulers from Bengal.

Speaking on the growing political debate surrounding the Babri Masjid issue, Adhikari alleged that under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government, names associated with “foreign invaders” such as Babur continue to remain visible in public places across the state.

“Mughal Names Will Not Remain in Public Places”

Adhikari asserted that if the BJP forms the government in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, it will ensure that all references to Mughal emperors are removed from public spaces.

“Wait till April. Once we form the government, you will see what happens,” he said, indicating that the BJP would take strict action soon after coming to power.

He further declared that the BJP would not only target references linked to Babur but would also erase all signs of Mughal rulers from across Bengal.

Calls Mughal Rulers ‘Foreign Invaders’

Adhikari described Mughal emperors such as Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb as foreign invaders, holding them responsible for oppression and violence in India.

He accused them of forcibly converting people, demolishing temples, and committing atrocities against women. The BJP leader claimed that wherever such names are found—from Darjeeling to Digha, and from Cooch Behar to Kakdwip—they would be removed under a BJP-led government.

Babri Masjid Issue Sparks Political Heat in Bengal

The Babri Masjid controversy has now turned into a politically charged topic in West Bengal. The issue gained further momentum after former TMC leader Humayun Kabir recently announced plans to build a “Babri Masjid” in Murshidabad district, triggering widespread backlash.

Following the controversy, the TMC suspended Kabir, after which he went on to form a new political outfit named the Janta Unnayan Party (JUP).

Political Tensions Likely to Rise

Adhikari’s remarks are expected to intensify political tensions in West Bengal, with the BJP and TMC already locked in a fierce battle ahead of the state elections. His statement has added a fresh layer of controversy to the ongoing debate over history, identity, and political narrative in the state.
