Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal has emerged as a significant figure in Rajasthan’s political landscape, seen as the potential face of a “third front” challenging the long-standing dominance of the Congress and BJP. Known for his active role in farmer movements and grassroots politics, Beniwal has carved a distinct identity as a regional leader committed to local issues.
1. Challenging Congress-BJP Hegemony
Beniwal’s foremost political ambition is to position himself and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) as a credible alternative to the two national parties. By highlighting regional concerns and prioritizing issues related to farmers, youth, and employment, he seeks to differentiate himself from conventional politics. On multiple occasions, he has projected his party as capable of forming a future government in Rajasthan.
2. Strengthening the Third Front
Beniwal is not content with limiting his influence to RLP alone. He aims to consolidate smaller parties and like-minded regional groups to bolster the third front. He recently supported independent candidate Naresh Meena in the Anta Assembly bypoll, signaling his strategy to bring together regional leaders and build a cohesive alternative political force.
3. Expanding Beyond the Jat Vote Bank
While Beniwal hails from the influential Jat community and enjoys strong support in Nagaur and Jodhpur, he is focusing on broader social coalitions. By reaching out to Other Backward Classes, farmer communities, and rural voters, he aims to expand his political base beyond traditional caste lines.
4. Family Support and Organizational Strength
Beniwal benefits from strong backing from his family, which actively participates in political campaigns and grassroots organization. His younger brother, Narayan Beniwal, a former legislator, plays a key role in strengthening the party’s regional network, providing a solid foundation for his political initiatives.
5. Panchayat Elections: The First Real Test
Political analysts say the upcoming panchayat elections will serve as a crucial gauge of Beniwal’s ground-level influence and the viability of the third front in Rajasthan. These elections will determine whether he can effectively position himself as a genuine alternative to the Congress-BJP duopoly.
Currently, Beniwal is staging a sit-in protest in Nagaur and has given the state government an ultimatum until January 13. Observers are closely watching whether his demands will be addressed and how these developments will shape the political future of the third front in Rajasthan.
