Ghatshila By-Election: Campaigning Ends; Former CM Champai Soren Breaks Down Over Hemant’s “Bull” Remark

Jamshedpur: Campaigning for the Ghatshila Assembly by-election in Jharkhand concluded on Sunday evening after days of intense political sparring. On the final day, emotions ran high as former Chief Minister Champai Soren, father of BJP candidate Babulal Soren, broke down while reacting to Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s controversial “bull” remark.

Addressing the media, an emotional Champai Soren said, “Calling the family of Jharkhand’s movement leaders ‘bulls’ is deeply insulting.” He added that the remark reflects the anti-tribal mindset of the current JMM government. “What has this government really done for the tribals, farmers, and laborers?” he asked, adding that the statement was not just a personal insult but “an attack on the dignity of the entire Jharkhand movement.”

Earlier, Chief Minister Hemant Soren had accused Champai and his son Babulal of betrayal, saying they “grew fat eating from the JMM’s trough but deserted it when the time came to plow the field.”

Champai Soren hit back, accusing the “Abua Sarkar” (Our Government) of suppressing tribal voices and disrespecting the sacrifices of movement activists. He condemned the recent police lathi-charge on protestors as “shameful” and said, “The people of Jharkhand will decide who stood for justice and who betrayed them.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a massive roadshow in Ghatshila on the last day of campaigning, appealing to voters to bless JMM candidate Somesh Soren, promising that “voters will choose the bow and arrow symbol on November 11 to ensure victory.”

The high-voltage campaign has set the stage for a fierce electoral contest between the JMM and the BJP in this politically charged by-election.
