“From What to What, Betrayer”: Congress Takes a Swipe at PM Modi Over US Minister’s Comment

The Congress party has taken a tongue-in-cheek dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi following comments by the US Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, regarding the delay in a trade deal between India and the United States. Using lines from classic Bollywood songs, the opposition party sought to mock the Prime Minister over the stalled negotiations.

Congress Hits Out Using Old Bollywood Lyrics
Congress General Secretary in charge of communications, ** Jairam Ramesh**, referenced Lutnick’s statement without directly naming PM Modi. In a social media post, Ramesh wrote:
*“Hug hug naa raha, Post post naa raha … Kya se kya ho gaya bewafa tere dosti mein.”*
These lines borrow from iconic 1960s films—“Kya Se Kya Ho Gaya” from the 1965 film Guide, starring Dev Anand, and “Dost Dost Na Raha” from the 1964 Raj Kapoor classic Sangam.

Lutnick Claims Modi Did Not Call
In a recent podcast, Howard Lutnick revealed that after finalizing a trade deal with the UK, the next target country was India. He stated that multiple parties sought guidance from then-President Donald Trump regarding India. Lutnick said, “We were talking to India and told them, you have three Fridays to complete this. Keep in mind, this is the President’s deal. Only he decides. I told you, have Modi call the President. India was uncomfortable doing so, so Modi did not call.”

Lutnick’s disclosure follows Trump’s earlier statement expressing dissatisfaction over India’s purchase of Russian oil and warning of potential tariffs, which he suggested could escalate from 50% to as high as 500%.

Congress Uses Wit to Critique
By invoking nostalgic Bollywood lyrics, Congress combined humor with political commentary, highlighting what it perceives as a diplomatic hesitation by PM Modi in securing the US trade deal. The post, widely circulated, reflects the opposition’s strategy of blending culture and politics to underscore its point.
