The sudden reappearance of four-time MP Dr. Ramesh Chand Tomar on the political stage has stirred significant buzz in Ghaziabad’s power corridors. His growing proximity to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is being seen as a major indicator of political realignment ahead of the 2027 Assembly and 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Tomar’s Revival Sends Signals
Long considered sidelined within the BJP, Tomar’s recent activities have raised eyebrows across the opposition camp. After releasing his book in September in the presence of the Chief Minister, Tomar has now once again demonstrated political strength by inviting CM Yogi to inaugurate a newly constructed cave temple at Tarun Sagaram Teerth in Muradnagar.
Political analysts believe these developments carry a clear message for Tomar’s rivals: he is far from retired and may be positioning himself for a comeback.
A Checkered Yet Influential Career
Dr. Tomar served as MP from Ghaziabad four times between 1991 and 2004. His defeat in 2004 to Congress’ Surendra Prakash Goel cost him his ticket, prompting him to join the Congress in 2014. However, he returned to the BJP mid-campaign that same year and was rewarded with a ticket from Dhaulana in the 2017 Assembly elections, which he lost.
Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Tomar reportedly lobbied for a ticket after speculation that incumbent MP Gen. V.K. Singh would be denied renomination. The party, however, did not consider his claim, and many believed his political innings had ended.
But his recent resurgence suggests otherwise.
Public Praise From the Chief Minister
In September, during the release of Tomar’s book “Bharat ki Swarnabha Narendra Modi”, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath publicly appreciated Tomar, surprising political observers.
On Thursday, during the inauguration of the cave temple, Tomar’s influence was again on display. Organisers openly acknowledged his contribution to bringing the Chief Minister to the event. Even the Jain monk present requested CM Yogi to “take care of Dr. Tomar,” drawing attention to Tomar’s renewed importance.
Tomar Given Special Attention on Stage
Despite the presence of Ghaziabad Mayor Sunita Dayal, state ministers Sunil Sharma and Narendra Kashyap, and MLAs Sanjeev Sharma and Ajitpal, Tomar was the only guest invited to the stage twice, underscoring his growing clout.
As Tomar’s political visibility rises, speculation is mounting that he could be preparing for a significant role in future elections — a development closely watched by both supporters and rivals.
