Bhopal: The first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in Madhya Pradesh, aimed at updating the voter list, was completed at midnight on Thursday. Officials said the preliminary draft of the updated electoral rolls will be published on Tuesday.
During the revision, the Election Commission identified nearly 42 lakh voters whose names are to be removed from the list. This includes deceased voters, duplicate entries, those who have relocated, and others who are otherwise ineligible. In addition, over 9 lakh voters were found to have incomplete information and will be issued formal notices.
Extended SIR Period to Maximize Participation
The SIR period was extended twice to ensure maximum voter participation. As of 27 October 2025, Madhya Pradesh had 5,74,06,143 registered voters. Forms were provided to all voters for updating their information, and 5,74,06,140 forms have been successfully digitized.
Dead and Relocated Voters
Regional verification revealed a large number of names belonging to deceased voters or individuals who have moved elsewhere. According to the Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ram Pratap Singh Jadon:
- Approximately 8.4 lakh names belong to deceased voters.
- Around 22.5 lakh voters have shifted to other locations.
- Nearly 2.5 lakh duplicate entries were also detected.
Next Steps by Election Commission
The Election Commission will now proceed with the removal, correction, and verification of these names. Once the preliminary draft is published, any voter whose details do not match the 2003 base records or have discrepancies will receive a formal notice from the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).
Jadon emphasized that accuracy and fairness are the top priorities: “Our aim is to ensure that no genuine voter is removed and that no ineligible name remains on the electoral rolls.”
