Ex-Councilor Among 11 Booked for Attack Over Election Campaign in Mumbai

Mumbai: A shocking case of political violence has emerged from Ward 124, Vikhroli Park Site, Mumbai. A man was attacked with a sharp weapon allegedly for campaigning for a rival party. Police have registered an FIR against 11 people, including former councilor Haroon Khan and his son.

Allegations of Violence Over Rival Party Campaign

The complainant, Salikh Siddique Kundar, alleged that around 12:20 AM on Monday, Haroon Khan, his son Roshan Khan, and 10 others approached him. Accusing him of promoting a rival party, they reportedly struck him on the back with a sharp weapon. The FIR names Haroon Khan, Roshan Khan, Azad alias “Daddy,” Fareed Lala, Javed Lala, Vicky Pathan, Jainul, and five others as accused.

Independent Candidate’s Rally Stopped by Police

Meanwhile, independent candidate Prarthana Shinde, contesting from Ward 92, was prevented from holding a campaign rally by Kharwade Police, citing lack of permission. Shinde, along with 700–800 workers, attempted to start the rally, but more than a dozen police personnel intervened, creating a tense situation.

Ladli Bahna Scheme Payment Deferred

In a related development, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the January installment under the Ladli Bahna scheme for eligible women will not be released in advance. The decision follows directives from the State Election Commission and the court. Earlier, advance payments were made during major festivals, but now the ₹1,500 installment will be credited after 16 January. The counting of votes for the 29 municipal corporations in the state is scheduled for 16 January.
