ED Raid at I-PAC Chief’s Residence Sparks Controversy; Mamata Banerjee Furiously Reacts

Kolkata: A high-voltage drama unfolded in West Bengal as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid at the residence of I-PAC chief, Pratik Jain. During the operation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee personally visited Jain’s home and strongly condemned the ED’s actions, accusing the agency of targeting crucial Trinamool Congress (TMC) documents.

Banerjee alleged that the ED attempted to seize the party’s internal data, including hard disks, candidate lists, and strategic documents. Amidst the chaos, several documents—including so-called “green files”—were reportedly taken and placed in Banerjee’s convoy. While the exact contents of these green files remain undisclosed, the CM maintained that they contained sensitive TMC data targeted by the ED.

Addressing the media outside Jain’s residence, Banerjee lashed out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling him a “mischievous Home Minister” and accusing the ED of overstepping its mandate by attempting to seize TMC’s election-related information. She further linked the raid to alleged attempts to manipulate voter lists through the Special Intelligence Report (SIR) ahead of the elections.

The ED’s operation, carried out on Thursday across 15 locations nationwide, primarily focused on a network involved in defrauding job seekers by promising fake government employment. In Kolkata, the agency raided I-PAC’s Salt Lake office. The seizure of files and documents, transported under police protection, has fueled claims that sensitive TMC data was the primary target.

Banerjee’s fierce reaction underscores the growing political tension in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming elections, with the ruling party accusing the central agencies of attempting to compromise its electoral preparations.
