Divya Gehlot Opens Up About Domestic Abuse, Denied Access to 4-Year-Old Daughter in High-Profile Political Family

RATLAM: In a case that has raised eyebrows due to the family’s political prominence, Divya Gehlot, daughter-in-law of senior political leader Thawar Chand Gehlot, has lodged serious allegations of dowry harassment, mental abuse, and domestic violence against her husband and in-laws.

Divya approached Ratalam SP Amit Kumar with detailed complaints, highlighting the abuse she faced in a family active in politics for over four decades. Thawar Chand Gehlot has been a five-time MLA, four-time Lok Sabha MP, and twice a Rajya Sabha MP, recognized nationally as a key Dalit leader.

According to Divya, her husband Devendra Gehlot began harassing her for a dowry of ₹50 lakh just months after their wedding on 29 April 2018, under the Chief Minister’s Kanyadaan Yojana. She also accused her father-in-law Jitendra Gehlot, brother-in-law Vishal Gehlot, and grandmother-in-law Anita Gehlot of participating in the abuse.

The situation escalated on 26 January this year when Divya claims her husband pushed her from the rooftop of their Nagda residence, requiring treatment at an Indore hospital. Adding to her distress, the Gehlot family has allegedly denied her access to her 4-year-old daughter, Druvanshi. Divya attempted to visit her daughter on 26 November, but was barred entry into the family home and was even unable to see her at school.

Currently, Divya is residing with her parents in Ratlam, while submitting three formal complaints, medical reports, and X-rays to the SP. The family has not yet responded publicly. Additional SP Rakesh Khakha confirmed the receipt of the complaints, noting that the investigation will be conducted under Ujjain district jurisdiction.

This case has drawn attention not only because of the allegations of domestic abuse but also due to the prominence of the political family involved, highlighting the personal challenges that can lie behind public political life.
