Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: On the occasion of Constitution Day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the swearing-in ceremony of the Preamble at Lok Bhavan, Lucknow, stressing the importance of respecting the Constitution and fulfilling civic responsibilities. He said, “Disrespecting the Constitution is equivalent to disrespecting Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution, and undermines the democratic values it symbolizes.”
Constitution Grants Equal Rights
CM Yogi highlighted that the Indian Constitution, from the very first day of its enforcement, granted every adult citizen the right to vote, regardless of caste, region, religion, or belief. He reminded citizens that the Constitution is not just a charter of rights but also a sacred duty-bound framework. Neglecting these duties while focusing only on rights weakens democracy.
Tribute to Ambedkar and Constitution Makers
Recalling the historical efforts behind India’s Constitution, Yogi Adityanath said that in just two years, 11 months, and 18 days, India got the world’s most inclusive Constitution. Ignoring it would dishonor Babasaheb Ambedkar and the freedom fighters. He noted that today’s generations often fail to grasp the true struggles of independence, making Constitution Day an essential reminder of core democratic values—a tradition initiated by PM Narendra Modi in 2015.
Call for ‘Panch-Pran’ for Developed India 2047
Referring to PM Modi’s Developed India 2047 vision, the CM urged citizens to adopt the “Panch-Pran” principles: freedom from colonial mindset, respect for heritage and culture, honor for uniformed personnel, social unity, and diligent fulfillment of civic duties. He emphasized that honest work by students, teachers, traders, and government employees is the truest tribute to the Constitution.
Promoting Social Harmony
CM Yogi warned against spreading hatred based on caste, language, or region, stating that such actions weaken the nation and will not be tolerated. He highlighted that over 9.8 million people participated in the “Sugam Abhiyan” initiative for a developed Uttar Pradesh, reflecting one in every five households’ engagement. Outstanding suggestions will be recognized at district and state levels, paving the way for self-reliant villages, districts, and ultimately a self-reliant state, contributing to India’s growth.
Duties Complement Rights
The CM stressed that citizens must actively participate in community welfare, giving the analogy of a neighboring fire—if one does not help extinguish it, it eventually affects them. Responsible performance of duties forms the foundation of democracy, he said. He cited trade unions as an example: fair work deserves fair compensation, and honest efforts deserve recognition.
Deputy CMs Attend Event
The event was also attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak. Maurya noted India’s democratic tradition is unique globally and warned that anti-Constitution activities will never be accepted by the public. Pathak emphasized that the Constitution grants equal rights and duties to every citizen, and active participation in nation-building is the truest respect for the Constitution.
