Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Highlights Government’s Key Achievements in Exclusive Interview

New Delhi: Nearly a year into her tenure, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has opened up about her government’s accomplishments, ongoing projects, and future plans in an exclusive interview. She spoke candidly about healthcare, infrastructure, women’s welfare, and policy reforms.

Key Achievements:

  • Ayushman Arogya Scheme: After a decade-long wait, the scheme was successfully implemented in Delhi. Nearly 700,000 people have registered, with around 25,000 receiving treatment and the government disbursing ₹45 crore in payments. Beneficiaries now have health insurance coverage up to ₹10 lakh, especially benefiting senior citizens and vulnerable families.
  • Atal Canteen Scheme: Designed to ensure no one goes hungry, this initiative provides affordable meals at ₹5, protecting the dignity of workers and economically weaker sections.
  • Electric Bus Fleet Expansion: The government has placed advance orders for 4,200 EV buses to meet Delhi’s growing transport needs, with a focus on last-mile connectivity.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Plans include redeveloping 1,400 km of roads, overhauling 50-year-old drainage systems, and a ₹56,000 crore project funded through a combination of central assistance, bank loans, and Delhi government funds to resolve waterlogging, sewer overflow, and drainage issues permanently.
  • Social Infrastructure: Construction of new schools, hospitals, mini-secretariats, government housing, and slum redevelopment projects are underway.

Women’s Welfare Initiatives:

  • While the ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance under the Women’s Prosperity Scheme is still being fine-tuned, the government is ensuring targeted delivery through verification of ration cards and pension lists to reach genuinely eligible women. Free LPG cylinders are being provided to 17.5 lakh families via direct benefit transfer.

Policy and Governance Approach:

  • On the alcohol policy, CM Gupta emphasized expert consultations to develop a plan suited to Delhi’s unique demographic and administrative realities.
  • Compared to the Aam Aadmi Party’s governance, she highlighted transparency and digitization, with e-files, digital signatures, and a CM dashboard to monitor projects and complaints in real time.

Looking Ahead:

  • The CM emphasized her administration’s focus on healthcare, education, transport, sports, and women’s empowerment, with all programs designed for sustainability, transparency, and direct impact on Delhi’s citizens.

CM Gupta’s vision reflects a digitally-enabled, accountable, and citizen-focused governance model, aiming to address long-pending issues while laying the foundation for future development.
