Datia, Madhya Pradesh: A storm has erupted in Datia district after the publication of a list of Booth Level Officer (BLO) assistants for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program, which included names of individuals allegedly affiliated with the BJP and RSS. The district administration has described the inclusion as an unintentional error and has initiated steps to remove the names, while the opposition Congress has accused the ruling party of influencing the process.
Political Affiliations Raise Eyebrows
The list of BLO assistants sparked immediate controversy as several appointees were reportedly linked to BJP and RSS. Datia Collector Swapnil Wankhede clarified that three politically affiliated names were included “by mistake.” He explained that the order was issued by the SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) of Datia Assembly, who had received the names from various departments. “There was no malicious intent, and the SDM did not intend any political bias. We have sought clarification on how this occurred, and the names are being removed,” Wankhede said.
Congress Leader Raises Concerns
PCC Chief Jitu Patwari shared a copy of the official list on social media, alleging that at least four appointees were active BJP members or office bearers. Patwari condemned the incident, claiming, “Even constitutional exercises like SIR are being politically manipulated by the administration. When the ruling party begins to color every institution in its own hue, democracy suffers. Congress will oppose any attempts to misuse the electoral process.”
Accused Deny Political Links
Among those named, BJP worker Manish Mishra denied holding any formal position in the party, saying, “I am a minor local worker, not a party office-bearer. The local administration has not contacted me regarding this controversy.” Another individual, Bobby Raja, also refuted the allegations.
Administration Acts Promptly
Following the uproar, the administration has confirmed that the names of politically affiliated individuals will be removed from the BLO assistant list. Officials emphasized that the error was unintentional and reassured the public that the SIR program will continue in a neutral and transparent manner.
