Congress Mocks PM Modi as Trump Repeats Claim of Halting India-Pakistan Military Conflict 70 Times

New Delhi: The Congress party on Wednesday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after U.S. President Donald Trump once again claimed to have prevented a military conflict between India and Pakistan, noting that Trump has repeated this claim 70 times.

Trump’s “Good Friend” Comment Draws Congress Criticism

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on X, stating, “Until yesterday, the count was 68. On Tuesday, it was not 69 but 70—once during the opening statement at his White House press conference and later during the Q&A session. The Prime Minister’s ‘good friend,’ with whom he was forced to hug several times, has announced 70 times that he was responsible for the sudden and unexpected halt of Operation Sindoor on 10 May 2025.”

Trump’s Claim of Stopping Military Escalation

President Trump, speaking at the White House on Tuesday, said, “In the past 10 months, I ended eight wars—these were conflicts that would never have ended otherwise. Cambodia and Thailand had been fighting for years, Kosovo and Serbia, Congo and Rwanda, Pakistan and India… eight planes were shot down. The Prime Minister of Pakistan was here and said that President Trump saved 10 million people, perhaps even more.”

Trump has repeatedly claimed that last year in May he mediated between India and Pakistan to prevent a military escalation, citing a trade agreement as a solution. Meanwhile, India maintains that the halt in Pakistan’s military operation came after direct contact with the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO).
