Sheopur: In the wake of untimely rains devastating crops in Sheopur, Congress MLA Babu Jandel has escalated his protest for farmer compensation, moving from an 11-day sit-in to a hunger strike. Alongside compensation for crop losses, Jandel is demanding waiver of electricity bills, KCC loan relief, and a comprehensive farmer relief package. He has accused the government and local administration of ignoring farmers’ urgent problems.
From Sit-In to Hunger Strike
Observing the distress among farmers after the unseasonal rainfall, MLA Jandel initially joined the ongoing farmers’ protest and, after 11 days, has now initiated a hunger strike. He declared that the fast will continue until farmers receive due compensation and relief measures.
Key Demands
Jandel’s demands include:
- Full compensation for crop losses caused by the unseasonal rain
- Waiver of electricity bills for affected farmers
- Relief from Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans
- Implementation of a comprehensive government relief package
He emphasized that farmers are already struggling and that it is the government’s responsibility to provide timely support.
Allegations Against BJP Leaders
The MLA leveled serious accusations at BJP leaders in Sheopur, claiming they have downplayed crop losses at 50% and have made no effort to secure compensation from the state government. Jandel alleged that due to BJP’s consecutive election losses, they are engaging in “revenge politics” against farmers’ issues. He appealed to BJP leaders to avoid politicizing farmers’ hardships and cooperate in ensuring relief reaches the affected.
Determined to Continue
Babu Jandel vowed to maintain the hunger strike until the farmers’ demands are fully met. He stated:
“This is a fight for the rights of farmers. I will continue the hunger strike until the government and district administration take concrete action in favor of the farmers.”
The MLA’s protest has intensified the spotlight on the Sheopur administration, highlighting the urgent need for relief measures to protect the region’s farmers.
