Jaipur: The proceedings of the Rajasthan Assembly’s budget session witnessed high drama and sharp political confrontation on Tuesday after senior Congress leader and Kota North MLA Shanti Dhariwal allegedly used an abusive remark against the government Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg, triggering an uproar in the House.
The controversy erupted during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, when tensions escalated between Dhariwal and Jogeshwar Garg, leading to heated exchanges and disruption in the Assembly.
Heated Argument Turns Into Uproar
At the time of the incident, the House was being chaired by Presiding Officer Sandeep Sharma. During the discussion, the argument between Shanti Dhariwal and the Chief Whip intensified, after which Dhariwal reportedly used an objectionable word that was considered against parliamentary decorum.
As soon as the remark was made, the Assembly witnessed immediate commotion, with ruling party members strongly objecting and demanding action.
Ruling Party Demands Removal of Remark From Records
Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg stood up in protest and demanded that the offensive remark be removed from the official Assembly proceedings.
In a sarcastic tone, Garg questioned the language used by the Congress leader and urged the presiding officer to take immediate action.
“Such language cannot be accepted under any circumstances. It damages the dignity of the House. His words were falling like ‘flowers’… the objectionable remark should be immediately removed from the records,” Garg said.
BJP Launches Attack, Calls It ‘Declining Political Culture’
Reacting strongly to the incident, Rajasthan BJP President Madan Rathore launched a sharp attack on the Congress, stating that Dhariwal’s use of abusive and indecent language reflects the party’s falling political standards.
In his statement, Rathore said the remark exposed the Congress party’s “declining political culture” and described it as a sign of “mental bankruptcy.”
Old Controversies Resurface
Following the latest controversy, Dhariwal’s past remarks have once again returned to public discussion. During the previous Congress government’s tenure, he had faced criticism for his controversial statement related to rape incidents, in which he had allegedly said, “Rajasthan is a state of men.”
The fresh incident has reignited debates over the language and behaviour of political leaders in legislative assemblies and the importance of maintaining parliamentary dignity.
