Congress Includes ST, SC, OBC, and Minority Leaders in By-Election Committees

The Congress Party has initiated preparations for upcoming by-elections by taking a significant organizational decision. The party has decided to include the state presidents of tribal (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and minority departments as special invitees in all state-level election committees.

Until now, these departments provided separate feedback on electoral issues but were not formally part of the election committees. According to a letter issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, the decision was taken with the approval of the Congress President. The letter emphasized that the party has a long tradition of social justice, inclusive representation, and participatory decision-making.

Strengthening collective decision-making

The Congress believes that directly including leaders representing tribal, Dalit, backward, and minority communities in election-related deliberations will allow a broader and more effective discussion of issues, social realities, and grassroots experiences. This move is expected not only to strengthen social inclusion but also to enhance the collective decision-making process.

The AICC has directed all state Congress committees’ presidents, CLP leaders, general secretaries, and in-charge officials to implement this decision with immediate effect.
