“Confidence is the Power That Makes Everything Possible”: PM Modi Elated Over U.S. Tariff Relief

Following the India-U.S. trade deal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a verse from the Mahabharata on social media, highlighting the power of confidence as the nation celebrates a major economic breakthrough. The announcement comes after the U.S. reduced tariffs on Indian goods from 50% to 18% following direct talks between PM Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump.

PM Modi’s Message of Confidence
On platform X, PM Modi wrote:
“Confidence is the power by which everything becomes possible. The strength of our citizens will be instrumental in realizing the dream of a developed India.”
He also included the Sanskrit verse:
“Śrīrmangalāt prabhavati prāgalbhyāt sampravardhate. Dākṣyāt tu kurute mūlaṃ saṃyamāt pratitiṣṭhati.”

Positive Impact of the Tariff Reduction
The agreement is expected to bring significant economic benefits to India. Several Union ministers, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, lauded the deal.

  • Rajnath Singh described it as a historic moment and a new chapter of deep and extensive economic cooperation, noting that tariffs have dropped to 18%, strengthening India-U.S. trade relations.
  • Amit Shah called it a “historic day” for India-U.S. relations, emphasizing that the finalized deal clears the path for stronger commercial ties and mutual development.
  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted that the reduction in tariffs is excellent news for ‘Made in India’ products, expressing gratitude to both PM Modi and President Trump for their leadership and noting that the deal will benefit citizens of both the world’s largest democracies.

The trade agreement is widely expected to boost India’s exports, open new opportunities for domestic industries, and enhance strategic and economic ties between India and the United States.
