Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Prayagraj on Saturday to inspect preparations for the annual Magh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in India. The seven-hour visit began with the CM taking a ceremonial dip at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, followed by prayers and rituals to seek the prosperity and well-being of the state.
Religious and Administrative Engagements
The CM’s schedule included visits to key religious sites and administrative checkpoints. At around 10:35 AM, he performed rituals at the prominent Bade Hanuman Temple before proceeding to the VIP Ghat for Ganga Snan and worship. Thereafter, he visited the camp of Jagadguru Santosh Das ‘Satua Baba’ to meet saints and spiritual leaders, receiving their inputs on Mela arrangements.
Review of Magh Mela Preparations
Yogi Adityanath later held a detailed review meeting at the Triveni Enterprises Conference Center. Officials presented the Mela’s preparation status, focusing on crowd management, traffic arrangements, security, sanitation, medical facilities, and accommodation. With over 31 lakh devotees having already taken holy dips at the Sangam, authorities anticipate around 1.5 crore visitors on Makar Sankranti and 3.5–5 crore during Mauni Amavasya. The Magh Mela, spread over approximately 800 hectares, is being organized akin to a “Mini Kumbh” to ensure smooth flow and safety of pilgrims.
Instructions for Enhanced Facilities
The Chief Minister instructed officials to strengthen arrangements, keeping in mind the rising influx of devotees. Emphasis was placed on seamless service delivery, safety, and the upkeep of facilities to maintain the Mela’s high standards.
Visit to National Law University and Development Review
After the Mela inspection, the CM visited the National Law University at Jhalwa to review ongoing development works and gain insights into academic and infrastructural progress. The visit concluded by 5:00 PM, after which he departed for Prayagraj Airport, scheduled to leave for Amausi at 5:10 PM.
Security Measures and Administration Alertness
In view of the CM’s visit and the ongoing Mela, police, PAC, and paramilitary forces were deployed across the Mela grounds. Police Commissioner Jogendra Kumar personally inspected security arrangements and instructed officers to maintain vigilance, manage traffic efficiently, and monitor any suspicious activity to ensure the safety of devotees.
Significance of the Visit
The CM’s proactive engagement underscores the government’s focus on ensuring a safe, organized, and spiritually enriching experience for pilgrims attending the Magh Mela, reinforcing Prayagraj’s position as a hub of religious and cultural heritage.
