Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called upon state residents to assist in identifying illegal immigrants, particularly Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals, as part of an intensified crackdown by the state government. This appeal comes amid a comprehensive Special Intensive Review (SIR) campaign, which has identified a large number of suspected illegal foreign nationals, many of whom are being prepared for transfer to detention centers.
CM’s Message to the Public
In a message titled “Yogi ki Paati” shared on X (formerly Twitter), CM Yogi emphasized that the safety, social balance, and strong law-and-order in Uttar Pradesh are top priorities. He urged residents to verify the identity of any person before employing them in domestic or commercial work. He highlighted that illegal immigrants place an undue burden on public resources, preventing welfare schemes from reaching eligible citizens.
Strict Action Against Illegal Immigrants
CM Yogi confirmed that decisive measures have been launched against illegally residing Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals. City-level authorities have been instructed to identify and list suspected foreign nationals. Detention centers are being established in each administrative division to facilitate further legal action.
Supreme Court Reference
The Chief Minister cited a Supreme Court observation stating that illegal immigrants cannot be given preferential treatment, underlining that illegal presence will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He described this as a clear directive guiding the state government’s ongoing operations.
Ensuring Public Welfare
The CM stressed that unauthorized use of public resources must be curtailed to ensure that welfare schemes benefit only the rightful recipients. A special verification drive is underway to screen documents and ensure compliance with legal and administrative protocols.
Public Appeal
CM Yogi concluded by appealing to the citizens of Uttar Pradesh to remain vigilant. He urged residents to verify identities before employing anyone, emphasizing that the collective responsibility of safeguarding the state is the foundation of security and prosperity.
Political Context
While the government frames the policy as a welfare-driven initiative, opposition parties have raised concerns about its potential political implications ahead of the 2027 UP elections. Nonetheless, the state asserts that these measures are necessary to prevent the diversion of public welfare resources.
