Dehradun, Uttarakhand: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami personally took charge of cleanliness at Dehradun’s Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) during an unscheduled visit, picking up a broom and sweeping the premises himself to set an example for officials.
Unannounced Inspection Sparks Action
During his surprise visit from the Secretariat in the evening, CM Dhami was reportedly angered by the scattered garbage and poor maintenance at the bus terminal. In response, he picked up a broom kept in the corner and began sweeping, demonstrating the standard of cleanliness expected. Officials present were left stunned, unable to intervene as the Chief Minister took the lead.
Warning to Officials
While cleaning, CM Dhami warned the staff: “Next time I visit, I expect the premises to be in proper condition. Cleanliness should not just exist on paper—it must be visible on the ground.” He instructed officials from the MDD, Transport Department, and ISBT management to ensure regular cleaning and display visible sanitation information at all points in the terminal.
Engaging with Commuters
CM Dhami also interacted with passengers inside buses at the terminal, seeking their feedback and suggestions regarding ISBT facilities. He personally inspected every section of the terminal, emphasizing that Uttarakhand, being a major tourism and pilgrimage destination, must maintain world-class sanitation standards at all transportation hubs.
Focus on Cleanliness Campaign
The Chief Minister announced that a statewide cleanliness campaign would soon be launched. He instructed officials to prepare detailed action plans to maintain high standards of sanitation at bus terminals, railway stations, and other transport centers across Uttarakhand, reinforcing that cleanliness is a top priority for the government.
