CM Mohan Yadav Announces Mandatory ‘Garbha Sanskar’ Rooms in All New Government Hospitals; 13 New Ayurvedic Colleges to Open

Bhopal/Indore: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday announced a major initiative under the ‘Divya Santan Prakalp’ program, aimed at promoting ‘Garbha Sanskar’—the ancient practice of prenatal education and wellness—across the state. The program will be implemented in coordination with the Ayushman Bharat Scheme and the Ministry of Ayush, with the goal of strengthening the physical, mental, and moral development of children even before birth.

As part of this initiative, all future government hospitals in Madhya Pradesh will be required to include dedicated Garbha Sanskar rooms. The Chief Minister emphasized that this practice combines modern medical science with India’s traditional knowledge systems and should be considered a long-term investment in nation-building.

Promoting Maternal and Child Health

Speaking at the Divya Santan Prakalp event in Indore, CM Yadav highlighted the benefits of Garbha Sanskar, stating that it helps make the next generation stronger physically, mentally, and morally. He noted that even allopathic doctors are increasingly recognizing the advantages of comprehensive prenatal care.

Expansion of Ayurvedic Education

In a significant move to strengthen traditional health systems, the state government announced the opening of 13 new Ayurvedic colleges, marking the largest expansion of its kind since India’s independence. Eight of these colleges are expected to become operational within a year. CM Yadav stressed that this step will further support maternal and child health, while promoting natural childbirth and robust healthcare services across the state.

Cultural and Historical Significance

To illustrate the importance of Garbha Sanskar, the Chief Minister cited examples from Indian tradition, including Abhimanyu and Ashtavakra, highlighting how values, learning, and ethics can be absorbed even before birth. He also pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the effectiveness of an integrated health approach, where Ayurveda and allopathy complemented each other. CM Yadav further elaborated on the scientific importance of India’s traditional rural lifestyle, indigenous diet, and culinary practices in holistic prenatal development.
