Clarifying the “Firing” at Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha’s Lakhisarai Visit

Lakhisarai, 29 November 2025: Following his resounding victory from the Lakhisarai constituency and subsequent reinstatement as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Vijay Kumar Sinha visited his home region of Barhiya and Lakhisarai to thank his supporters. During his visit, rumors circulated that gunfire had been discharged in his honor. However, a closer look at the footage and local practices reveals the truth.

Massive Welcome in Hometown
On his gratitude tour, Sinha was greeted enthusiastically by supporters. A large rally of cars and motorcycles accompanied him as he entered Lakhisarai. Later, he visited the renowned Maa Bala Tripur Sundari Jagdamba Temple in Barhiya for prayers, expressing his vision to develop Barhiya into a spiritual hub. He also reaffirmed the government’s stance on curbing corruption and crime, emphasizing that land and sand mafias would not be spared.

Viral Video Sparks Rumors
A video circulating online showed two men appearing to fire guns as part of the welcome. This led to claims that actual gunfire took place during the Deputy CM’s reception, with opposition parties attempting to politicize the incident.

The Truth: It Was a “Chidimar” Gun
The guns seen in the video were “Chidimar” guns, traditional ceremonial firearms used in rural Bihar. Though resembling real guns, these devices are non-lethal and used solely for producing loud sounds and smoke, often to ward off nilgai (blue bulls) or as part of festive celebrations. The practice is common in ceremonies such as mundan (first hair-cutting rituals), weddings, and harvest festivals.

The two men operating the Chidimar guns belong to the local Muslim community, performing a long-standing tradition during Hindu celebrations. These guns contain no bullets or pellets—only gunpowder tightly packed to generate a loud noise when fired.

Conclusion
While visually striking, the “firing” at Vijay Kumar Sinha’s welcome was ceremonial and harmless, rooted in local custom rather than an act of violence. The Deputy CM’s visit remains a celebrated event, highlighting the community’s unity and festive spirit.
