Chandigarh Mayor Election Result: BJP Triumphs Again; Saurabh Joshi Elected Mayor, Jasmanpreet Singh Becomes Senior Deputy Mayor

Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again emerged victorious in the Chandigarh Mayor election. BJP’s Saurabh Joshi won the mayoral seat, securing 18 votes, while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Yogesh Dhingra received 11 votes and Congress candidate Gurpreet Gabi managed only 7 votes.

The election was conducted by a show of hands, rather than ballot papers. Overcome with emotion upon his victory, Joshi was assisted by colleagues to take his seat as Mayor. He also brought a photograph of his late father to the ceremony, paying tribute to him at this momentous occasion.

Vote Tally

| Party | Candidate | Votes |
| BJP | Saurabh Joshi | 18 |

| Congress | Gurpreet Gabi | 7 |

Senior Deputy Mayor Election

Following the mayoral election, voting was held for the position of Senior Deputy Mayor. Congress boycotted the vote, with six of its councillors leaving the chamber midway. Consequently, the Deputy Mayor post also went to the BJP, with Jasmanpreet Singh receiving 18 votes against 11 votes for the AAP candidate.

BJP Holds Majority in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation comprises 35 councillors, along with one Member of Parliament vote. BJP held the majority with 18 councillors, while Congress had 7 and AAP 11. Analysts noted that a coalition between Congress and AAP could have posed a challenge to the BJP, but both parties chose to contest separately, giving BJP a decisive advantage.

With this victory, BJP consolidates its control over Chandigarh’s municipal administration, reaffirming its influence in the Union Territory.
