BJP’s Young President Nitin Nabin: Will Seniors Be Part of His Team? What the Party Constitution Says

New Delhi: Nitin Nabin is set to become the next national president of the BJP, representing the party’s young generation. At just 45, his appointment signals a generational shift within the party. Attention now turns to the composition of his national team, where a balance between youthful energy and senior experience is expected.

Energy Meets Experience
While Nabin is likely to bring more young faces into the leadership, senior members are not expected to be overlooked. Party leaders note that while youthful vigor is essential, the wisdom and guidance of senior leaders remain equally important. The challenge for Nabin will be to manage a team that combines both.

The Role of the Parliamentary Board
BJP’s parliamentary board plays a crucial role in key decisions, including candidate selections and chief ministerial appointments. Currently, the board comprises mostly senior leaders: J.P. Nadda (65), Prime Minister Narendra Modi (75), Amit Shah (61), Rajnath Singh (74), Sarbananda Sonowal (63), B.S. Yediyurappa (82), K. Laxman (69), Iqbal Singh Lalpura (71), Sudha Yadav (60), Satyanarayan Jatiya (79), and B.L. Santosh (55). With Nitin Nabin at 45, observers are keen to see how the board’s generational mix might evolve.

Constitutional Guidelines for National President
According to the BJP constitution, a national president must have been an active member for at least four terms and a primary member for a minimum of 15 years. Organizational elections begin at the primary committee level, followed by block, district, and then state-level electoral bodies. For state president elections, representation includes women and reserved communities proportional to the legislative seats.

Election Process and Voting Likelihood
The national president is elected by the National Council, composed of members from each state according to Lok Sabha seats, with adjustments for women and reserved communities. A candidate must be proposed by at least five state units of the council where organizational elections are complete and must give formal consent. Historically, BJP national presidents have always been elected unopposed, though the formal electoral process is always followed.

As Nitin Nabin prepares to assume the top position, all eyes will be on how he balances youthful energy with senior leadership in his new national team.
