BJP Targets Mamata Banerjee Over Ritual Practices Ahead of West Bengal Elections

New Delhi: With West Bengal set to go to the polls later this year, political tensions between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have intensified. In a recent move, Amit Malviya, head of the BJP IT Cell, criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly disrespecting Hindu rituals.

Malviya shared a video on social media platform X, claiming that Banerjee offered milk to Lord Shiva directly from a plastic tetra pack. He alleged that this act, combined with her ceremonial inauguration of temples across the state, was an attempt to portray respect for Hindu traditions while politically undermining them.

“Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not shy away from disrespecting Hindu rituals and traditions. She offers milk to Lord Shiva directly from a plastic tetra pack,” Malviya wrote. “Yet, by laying the foundation of temples across the state, she tries to convey that she supports Hindu beliefs. Would she ever dare to treat the rituals of any other religion this way? Absolutely not. This ‘mistake’ seems reserved only for Hindu practices, which she casually mocks, diminishes, or misuses for political gain.”

The post has sparked controversy, highlighting the BJP’s growing focus on religious symbolism as a political tool ahead of the upcoming state elections.
