New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK following the Madras High Court’s quashing of an FIR against BJP leader Amit Malviya in connection with controversial remarks on Sanatana Dharma made by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. BJP accused the DMK of promoting an “anti-Hindu, shameless agenda.”
BJP Calls DMK ‘Shameless and Anti-Hindu’
Reacting to the Madurai bench verdict, BJP national spokesperson C.R. Kesavan questioned whether Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin would apologize for his “poisonous hate speech” and whether Chief Minister M.K. Stalin would condemn the divisive remarks. Kesavan further criticized DMK, stating, “Whether it is opposing Karthigai Deepam celebrations or deliberately withholding greetings during Diwali, the DMK’s anti-Hindu mindset is both shameless and brazen.”
People Will Not Tolerate Insults to Hindu Faith
Kesavan also highlighted that the DMK leadership had failed to take any action against a former Union Minister and a DMK MP who allegedly claimed that Hinduism was not only a threat to India but to the world. “The people of Tamil Nadu are watching closely. They will neither forget nor forgive this public insult to their faith,” he said.
High Court Quashes FIR Against Amit Malviya
Recently, the Madras High Court delivered a major setback to the DMK in two cases involving remarks on Sanatana and Hinduism. In the current case, the court declared Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin’s 2023 comments as “hate speech” and quashed the FIR filed against Amit Malviya. Stalin had controversially compared Sanatana Dharma to diseases like dengue and malaria and suggested it should be eradicated. BJP had filed the FIR, interpreting his statement as an incitement to genocide. The High Court noted that Malviya’s speech did not amount to a call for violence.
Earlier Setback in Deepam Controversy
This follows a previous ruling by the Madras High Court’s double bench in the Karthigai Deepam controversy, which directed the DMK government to allow traditional celebrations to continue. BJP’s newly appointed national president, Nitin Naveen, has also raised this issue in his inaugural speech. With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching this year, these developments provide BJP and its NDA allies a significant political lever against the ruling DMK.
