Ranchi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey from Godda is facing backlash after his comments on the Supreme Court’s stay on the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) new rules went viral on social media. Politicians and citizens alike have expressed strong opinions on the matter.
What Dubey Said
Following the Supreme Court’s decision, Dubey shared a post on social media platform X, targeting the opposition. He claimed that he had been raising the issue in Parliament over the past two days, but no political party deemed it important enough for discussion. Dubey criticized the government for being criticized for granting 10% EWS reservation to the upper castes, calling it unfair.
Appealing to the public to trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he stated that the country’s laws would continue to operate under Articles 14 and 15 of the Constitution. He concluded his post with the remark, “The Supreme Court did exactly what I said,” a statement that triggered widespread controversy.
Opposition Hits Back
The RJD strongly objected to Dubey’s claim. Party spokesperson Priyanka Bharti called his statement “dangerous for democracy” and questioned whether Supreme Court decisions are now being dictated from BJP offices. She alleged that Dubey’s remark suggested that the ruling party had undue influence over constitutional institutions and the judiciary.
Trolled on Social Media
Dubey’s claim that “the Court did exactly what I said” has also drawn sharp criticism on social media. Users are accusing him of arrogance and questioning the independence of the judiciary, with many branding the MP as boastful and undermining the sanctity of constitutional institutions.
