Patna, February 3:
As West Bengal gears up for its upcoming Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is focusing on caste-based strategies to consolidate votes in its favor. The party has reportedly mobilized senior leaders from Bihar, representing different caste communities, to campaign in West Bengal and engage with voters along caste lines.
Bihar BJP leaders are being tasked with appealing to migrant communities from Bihar who have settled in West Bengal, particularly in areas where their influence can sway the outcome. While West Bengal does not have the same rigid caste alignments as Bihar, the growing political awareness among migrant voters has prompted the party to deploy experienced leaders to manage caste-based outreach.
Key Bihar Leaders in West Bengal Campaign
- Ram Surat Rai, former minister, has been entrusted with mobilizing Yadav voters.
- Devesh Mishra and Jeevesh Mishra, former ministers, are tasked with garnering support among Bhumihar and Brahmin communities.
- Mangal Pandey is also playing a significant role in coordinating overall caste outreach.
- Rajesh Verma, state general secretary, is focusing on the Kayastha community.
- Mithilesh Kumar, former MLA, has been assigned to appeal to the Vaishya community.
- Jagannath Thakur and former MLA Niki Hembram are handling Dalit and tribal voter engagement, respectively.
Focus on Strategic Constituencies
BJP’s strategists have identified 31 constituencies in northern West Bengal as priority seats. The party aims to replicate Bihar-style electoral gains by leveraging caste equations and outreach to migrant voters. Senior leaders, office bearers, and experienced workers are actively strengthening the party’s presence in urban areas, border regions, and migrant-heavy constituencies to ensure successful vote transfers when the elections approach.
