Kolkata: In a major political attack ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP has compared Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to German dictator Adolf Hitler. The West Bengal BJP shared a post on social media platform X, calling both “the same” and stating, “The dictator is scared.”
The attack comes shortly after the appointment of Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as the new executive president of the party, signaling BJP’s intensified focus on the upcoming state polls. The post highlights growing tension between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP, as elections are expected in March-April, leaving just two to three months for campaigning.
Voter List Controversy Adds Fuel to Fire
The BJP’s criticism comes at a time when the Election Commission is set to release the draft voter list after the Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR). A total of 5.8 million names were removed across the state, including over 40,000 from Mamata Banerjee’s own Bhabanipur constituency. The party claims this move impacts the electoral prospects of the ruling TMC, adding to the high-voltage political environment.
High-Stakes Contest in West Bengal
Mamata Banerjee remains the most prominent face of TMC, with her nephew Abhishek Banerjee increasingly active in the party’s campaigns. TMC has successfully maintained power in West Bengal, taking control from leftist parties, while the BJP had made significant gains in the last assembly elections, winning 77 seats. However, defections have reduced BJP’s current tally to 63 MLAs.
With West Bengal elections approaching, BJP’s leadership has intensified its rhetoric, targeting Mamata Banerjee directly by labeling her a “dictator” akin to Hitler—a strategy aimed at galvanizing opposition support and shaping voter perception ahead of the polls.
