Bihar’s 202 Future Government: No Excuses, Deliver or Step Aside

Patna, Bihar: Nitish Kumar is set to become Bihar’s Chief Minister for the tenth time, marking an extraordinary political achievement. The NDA’s decisive victory in the state elections is a testament to his leadership and the public’s trust. However, the new tenure presents formidable challenges that will test the government’s ability to deliver on promises.

Jobs for Migrants: The Immediate Challenge

A key election promise was to generate one crore jobs over the next five years. Migration due to lack of employment has been a long-standing issue in Bihar. Young voters now expect tangible results, and the government must ensure employment opportunities within the state to prevent further exodus. Industrial growth has historically lagged in Bihar, and attracting large-scale investments will require active initiative from the Chief Minister, similar to leaders in Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh who personally drive industrial development rather than relying solely on bureaucrats.

Funding Welfare Initiatives

Pre-election, Nitish Kumar announced several welfare programs, including free electricity up to 125 units and financial support to self-help groups. The government now faces the challenge of securing sufficient funds to implement these initiatives sustainably. Plans include providing additional financial support to over 1.5 crore women engaged in income-generating programs. To fulfill these commitments, the administration will need to boost state revenue through infrastructure development and industrial promotion.

Law and Order: From Paper to Practice

While the Nitish government has repeatedly claimed improvements in law and order, criminal activity remains a concern. Attacks by sand and liquor mafias, and audacious assaults on police personnel, underscore the need for strict enforcement and accountability. Strengthening law and order will be a critical test for the government to maintain public confidence and demonstrate that coalition politics does not compromise security.

Strong, Stable Governance Required

The public’s high expectations stem from the stability and experience of the NDA coalition, led by Nitish Kumar and supported by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With five constituent parties—BJP, JD(U), LJP(R), HAM, and RLSP—the coalition’s unity will be crucial. Any attempt by a partner to weaken the alliance may jeopardize their political future. Citizens now expect transparency, performance, and tangible results, leaving no room for complacency.

The mandate is clear: perform or step aside. Bihar’s voters have placed immense trust in this government, and the coming tenure will determine whether the state can achieve sustained development, industrial growth, and social welfare under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.
