The resounding victory of the NDA in Bihar’s assembly elections has significantly boosted the morale of BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh. After the disappointment of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state, this win has reignited hopes for the 2027 UP Assembly polls. Party strategists are now shifting their full focus to “Mission Uttar Pradesh.”
UP Leaders Gain Influence
Bihar’s success has elevated the stature of key UP leaders, particularly Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who served as co-in-charge of the Bihar elections. Working alongside election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan, Maurya played a pivotal role in election strategy, coordination, and outreach to OBC voters. Muzaffarpur became the central hub for Maurya’s supervision, covering 78 assembly seats.
Several UP ministers, officials, and party workers were deployed in Bihar for months, organizing public rallies and door-to-door campaigns. Leaders such as Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, former minister Mahendra Singh, ministers Anil Rajbhar, Daya Shankar Singh, Suresh Rana, Dinesh Pratap Singh, Somendra Tomar, Girish Yadav, JPS Rathore, Narendra Kashyap, and Upendra Tiwari contributed extensively to the NDA’s success.
Impact of Yogi Adityanath’s Campaign
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s campaign rallies also created a buzz in Bihar. Sources report that the CM conducted 32 rallies and a roadshow, campaigning for around 43 NDA candidates, most of whom went on to win.
Focus Shifts to Uttar Pradesh
Political analysts suggest that Bihar’s victory will have a direct impact on UP politics. With the state assembly elections scheduled for 2027, BJP has already begun preparations to secure power in India’s most populous state. Lessons from Bihar, especially in terms of caste-based strategy and electoral planning, are expected to be applied in UP. Organizational and cabinet reshuffles are anticipated before 2027, including the announcement of a new state party president, followed by strategic placement of leaders between the cabinet and party positions.
Challenges for Ally Parties
Bihar’s election outcome has also sent a message to BJP’s allies in UP. The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), which had tried to exert pressure ahead of the polls, faced a reality check after fielding only 32 candidates out of its initially planned 153 in Bihar, with most deposits forfeited. Other allies attempting to influence BJP’s strategy are expected to exercise caution in the coming years.
With “Mission UP” now officially underway, BJP’s leaders are working to consolidate their organizational structure, voter base, and strategic planning to secure a decisive victory in the state’s 2027 assembly elections.
