Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 brought double misfortune for Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party. On the night of the results, the party faced both a crushing electoral defeat and the untimely death of its candidate from the Tarari Assembly constituency, Chandrashekhar Singh.
Candidate Suffers Heart Attack During Campaign
Chandrashekhar Singh suffered a heart attack on 31 October while campaigning in Tarari, Bhojpur district. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Patna by his family and supporters. Despite receiving intensive treatment for 10 days, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away on the night of 14 November, leaving his family, supporters, and even political opponents deeply saddened.
Widespread Condolences
The sudden demise of Chandrashekhar Singh brought grief across political lines. Vishal Prashant of the BJP, who won the Tarari seat, expressed his sorrow, along with Jan Suraj Party leaders who conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family.
Respected Educator and Community Leader
Chandrashekhar Singh, a retired headmaster from Kurmuri village in Bhojpur, had no prior political background but was highly respected in his community, popularly known as “Master Saab.” Following the formation of the Jan Suraj Party, Prashant Kishor encouraged him to contest the election, recognizing his social influence and integrity.
Election Outcome
In Tarari, BJP candidate Vishal Prashant won the seat with 11,464 votes, while Chandrashekhar Singh secured 2,271 votes. Though defeated at the polls, Singh’s legacy as a dedicated educator and trusted community figure will be remembered by all.
