Patna:
In a historic electoral performance, the Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the single largest party in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, crossing the unprecedented mark of 90 seats. With this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully conquered the political fort of Bihar in his third attempt, turning a long-standing political aspiration into reality.
The results make it clear that Modi has now become one of the central faces of Bihar’s electoral landscape, placing the BJP just 30–32 seats short of an absolute majority on its own.
BJP Crosses the 90-Seat Threshold for the First Time Alone
The Bihar mandate marks a major shift in state politics.
Even in 2010, when the BJP had won 91 seats, it had finished second.
This time, however, the party is on track to cross 91 seats as the largest political force in the state.
The jump from 74 seats to over 90 has been a strategic and organisational triumph, achieved by breaking into strongholds long dominated by rival parties. The BJP’s election machinery showcased extraordinary coordination, resilience, and ground-level mobilisation.
Ramkripal Yadav Breaks Lalu’s Fortress in Danapur
One of the most high-profile victories came from Danapur, where BJP’s Ramkripal Yadav defeated RJD strongman Reetlal Yadav, dismantling a seat long considered a Lalu Yadav bastion.
Lalu Prasad Yadav himself campaigned extensively for his jailed candidate, even braving ill health. Despite the Yadav-dominated demography, Ramkripal not only consolidated non-Yadav votes but also punctured the RJD’s core support base, proving that the “Lalu magic” failed to work this time.
Prime Minister Modi and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath both campaigned in support of Ramkripal, signalling the high stakes attached to this seat.
Big Boost for BJP: Mangal Pandey and Samrat Choudhary Pass the Credibility Test
Before the elections, senior BJP leaders Mangal Pandey and Samrat Choudhary faced serious corruption allegations from strategist Prashant Kishor — raising concerns about the BJP’s credibility.
The party took a calculated risk by pushing both leaders into the electoral battlefield.
The gamble paid off:
- Mangal Pandey defeated RJD heavyweight Awadh Bihari Choudhary in Siwan.
- Samrat Choudhary recorded a big victory in Tarapur.
Their wins restored the party’s image and strengthened its political command.
BJP Demolishes CPI-ML Stronghold in Arwal
A major ideological victory came from Arwal, where BJP’s Manoj Sharma defeated CPI-ML’s Mahanand Singh on a seat the Left had long dominated.
The CPI-ML’s defeat on its own turf signals a significant shift, driven largely by a massive turnout of women voters and EBC communities in favour of the BJP.
Similarly, after many years, the BJP reclaimed the Shahpur seat in Bhojpur where Rakesh Ranjan Ojha defeated sitting RJD MLA Rahul Tiwari, son of veteran leader Shivananad Tiwari.
BJP Snatches Key Seats from Congress and RJD
The saffron party also registered surprising victories in several Congress and RJD territories:
- Anand Mishra won in Buxar, flipping the seat from Congress.
- In Bhagalpur, young BJP leader Rohit Pandey defeated Congress MLA Ajit Sharma, despite a high-profile campaign by his daughter and Bollywood actress Neha Sharma.
- In Chhapra, BJP’s Chhoti Kumari stunned political observers by defeating Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav.
These victories underline the BJP’s sweeping reach across demographics and regions.
BJP Fixes Its Weak Spots to Sweep Entire Clusters
Districts such as Bhojpur, Rohtas, Buxar, and Kaimur were earlier viewed as weak areas for the NDA. But the intensive month-long campaign changed the electoral arithmetic:
- Bhojpur: NDA leading on all 7 seats
- Rohtas: NDA leading on 6 out of 7
- Buxar: NDA ahead on 3 out of 4
- Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada: NDA shows strong dominance
This consolidation across regions has contributed decisively to the BJP’s surge beyond 90 seats.
