Patna: The Bihar Legislative Assembly witnessed a tense exchange between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav during the ongoing budget session. The confrontation occurred while discussing the Governor’s address, with Nitish Kumar sharply admonishing Tejashwi Yadav in a forceful tone, telling him, “Sit down, you are still a child. We belong to your father’s era, and we respect you.”
Addressing the assembly, Nitish Kumar highlighted his government’s achievements, stating that before his party came to power, citizens lived in fear and were hesitant to step outside their homes. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the generous support extended to Bihar by the Centre and reaffirmed his government’s goal of doubling the state’s per capita income over the next five years.
Heated Words in Assembly
The exchange escalated when Tejashwi Yadav attempted to interject. Nitish Kumar interrupted, insisting that Yadav listen quietly, criticizing him over past allegations of bribing six legislators. The Chief Minister said, “Where did you get the money to bribe the six MLAs? How much did you spend? That money was misused, and yet you were let off.” Yadav retorted, prompting Nitish Kumar to sternly command him to remain seated. Amid the verbal sparring, Yadav smiled while Nitish Kumar continued his pointed rebuke, emphasizing his seniority and experience.
Opposition’s Criticism of Government
Despite being reprimanded, Tejashwi Yadav raised pointed concerns about the state government’s governance. He lamented the administration’s alleged inaction, stating, “This government does not wake up even at the screams of daughters. Its only identity is false praise and complete negligence.” Yadav also presented crime data, questioning the state of law and order and accusing BJP allies of undermining democratic processes, turning governance into a tool of coercion.
The incident highlighted not only the sharp political rivalry in Bihar but also the assertive and confrontational nature of the state’s assembly debates, drawing attention from across the nation.
