Patna: The Bihar Legislative Assembly’s 2026 budget session saw a dramatic twist on 9 February, as members of the ruling party found themselves questioning their own government. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary faced tough questions from his own party’s MLA, highlighting issues with police station infrastructure.
Ruling Party MLA Questions Own Government
The session began with routine question-and-answer proceedings, but the atmosphere quickly turned intense. BJP MLA Jivesh Mishra raised questions about incomplete police station facilities, particularly the visitor rooms at Jale and Singhwara police stations, criticizing the delay and calling it “shameful.”
Adding to the pressure, JD(U) MLA Manjeet Kumar Singh of Barouli also raised similar concerns, amplifying the spotlight on the government’s inaction.
Deputy CM Forced to Respond
Facing scrutiny from his own party MLA, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary, who also holds the Home Department portfolio, assured the assembly that investigations would be conducted and that responsible officials would face action for the delays.
MLA Accuses Officials of Negligence
MLA Mishra pointedly said:
“It is a highly controversial response when the government claims the police station building is not dilapidated. If it isn’t, then why were ₹6 lakh allocated for repairs? From 2023 to 2026, the government has failed to construct barracks for women constables. Will action be taken against negligent officials? Approval for visitor rooms at Jale and Singhwara was given in 2022, but they remain incomplete in 2026. Officials are playing games with the government — whose responsibility is this? Such irresponsible responses are being submitted by officers.”
Protest Over Darbhanga Child Rape-Murder Case
Earlier in the day, opposition MLAs staged a noisy protest in the assembly portico over the Darbhanga 6-year-old child rape-murder case, and also raised concerns regarding the Patna NEET student case, highlighting ongoing public outrage. Amid the commotion, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar arrived at the Bihar Assembly to address the proceedings.
